I hate this. I wish my body would learn to just burn the huge pile of fucking fat for energy, rather than refuse to touch it when I clearly need to get more shit done.

The way I understand it, you need to keep your work in a lower aerobic zone for sustained periods if you want to burn more fat. Higher end/heavier work tends to force the body to burn glycogen for energy, rather then fat, because it needs that fast, easy burst.
So aim to try longer, somewhat lighter workouts that don't drive your heart rate high to burn more fat.
I could also be talking out of my ass, so take it for what it's worth.

it would be nice but the body is stubborn and doesn't work that way. caffeine is useful in trying times such as these.
