   We are in the midst of another Google Reader-level community disruption.

   It’s a good time to reset, take stock, clean house, and own your content!

   If you don’t yet have your own web site—it’s a good time to start!

   1. The most crucial piece is ownership of the domain name.
   2. Then add content (it can just be plain HTML!)
   3. Iterate on it! Make it better, but more importantly—make it yours.

     @zachleat I love this approach! I can put whatever I want on my own server rarely worrying about what service I'll use!

     I only worry about which service I'd use if I want non-trivial interactivity, otherwise nginx maybe with webforms who's submissions get forwarded to me for curation.

     This way I have static files and can focus on hardening on the server when they request the data.

     For interactivity I started to write Web Components.

     @zachleat developed something called WebC for build-time evaluation, so they might not need client-side JavaScript.

     Comments (one kind of form) will be included via WebMention (encouraging to set up domains on one's own) and perhaps ActivityPub.

     Here I can have a review queue. Could be CLI I run on the server after I SSH into it.

     Well, Netlify pays @zachleat and they have a solution here.

     But then you would need to think of what to do if they ever take another turn („decide later“ is valid).

     I have started to write small services that run on the same machine, aren't exposed to the Internet and communicate with each other via Redis PubSub.

     Currently for fetching content and processing it (so my hoster won't kill Eleventy on every other build).

     No forms yet.

     Right now via API request to webmention.io

     But I look at several WebMention implementations.

     Plus, I am formally maintainer of webmention.py (but haven't updated after porting to Python 3 - there's a downstream project still relying on Python 2.7 last time I checked).
