But I do know that various people in both governments did try to work things out. Otherwise there wouldn't have even been talks on what the Poles wanted in exchange for Danzig.

I don't think the people of Danzig giving the Polish government constant shit and being supported by some Nazi groups helped.

It is almost like giving a city with a good 80% German population to Poland and severing any land route between Germany proper and East Prussia was done on purpose with the intention of causing problems later.
