@pernia @graf @graf @ehhh @lilianabreeder Not really, if he meant IBM PC-compatibles at the time. They took majority of computer marketshare and varied differently in terms of performance, thus optimizing the game on lower levels made it run better on underperforming hardware.

@mint @graf @graf @ehhh @lilianabreeder well i was thinking that he sacrificed portability for performance. it would've made more sense if he said "runs better on most machines", because if he made it more portable and less performant it could run on more computers, albeit shittier on lower-specced ones
