   People were like "ugh, it's so weird that people are against masks. You wouldn't be against seatbelts!"

   And it's like, oh, honey. Americans fought tooth and claw against seat belts for generations.

   In 1981, 11% of people used seatbelts.

   Car manufacturers made those automatic ones, even though they didn't work as well, just to get people to use them. AND PEOPLE CUT THEM OFF.

   It took legal mandates to even get to where we are now, with 85%ish use of seatbelts.

     Remember when all cars came with cigarette lighters and ashtrays, but seat belts were kind of optional.
