How come on #TV, characters who are on the phone don’t say “bye”, they just hang up?

He sounded so unnatural just talking to the mic there is no way I could listen to that.
Yeah scripts these days do seem to lack a human feel. I get a chuckle out of some of the dialog I've seen. I don't think I've ever consciously separated the way they talk when they are not in the room with the other side of the conversation to see if things seem more unnatural there, but now I'm gonna look for it. The hanging up without ending the call in a sociable way is one that I've always thought was super strange. I wonder if it's actually scripted that way or just the result of sloppy editing? -

I always found actors kind of cringy when they are talking to someone who isnt there... little things I think most people miss but to me stand out like a sore thumb. Stuff like the length of the pauses and some of the wording seems really unnatural.
Then again i p[ick that up in tv and movies in general, can make a lot of tv hard to watch.
