Rasterman (rasterman@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:13:40 JST Rasterman The new Zelda hasn't released yet, but you can download the ROM to play on emulator. :doge_laugh: https://nsw2u.org/
I don't know who does this or how, but it's pretty funny to me.
Just be careful you don't get visited by a large Haitian man in a suit. It might be the last thing you see.-
Christi Junior (christijunior@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:13:37 JST Christi Junior @Samhydeigger @Rasterman You could say it's a good open world game, but a bad Zelda game. It only has 4 dungeons, and they're pretty short, weak and samey overall. The overworld is absolutely huge, and well-designed, but there's barely any notable music playing during exploration, just nature sounds and Little Susie trying out her mom's piano. Combat is really fun, but enemy variety is garbage. The selection of cities is great, and a lot of the established Zelda races get their civilizations really fleshed out. The Shrine micro-dungeon system is actually really cool, and somewhat (but only somewhat) makes up for the weak dungeons. The extreme non-linearity definitely hurts the sense of progression and throws off the difficulty curve, which starts off really good and challenging. The story is mostly inconsequential, Zelda gets good development, but Ganon is the least interesting he has been since the NES days. -

Christi Junior (christijunior@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:13:38 JST Christi Junior @Rasterman TotK continuing BotW's lame approach to field music already cripples it right out of the gate. It might surpass its predecessor, but such a fundamentally flawed experience isn't going to match games that deliver on every important front.
Also, you can't act like the Fediverse's biggest Zelda defender when you STILL haven't played Ocarina of Time :loli_disdain: -
Samhydeigger (samhydeigger@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:13:38 JST Samhydeigger @ChristiJunior @Rasterman I'm a big Zelda fan unfortunately I can't afford a Switch right now but was BotW bad? I heard it was pretty good and once I get a switch or emulator set up I'd like to get it and TotK. -
Christi Junior (christijunior@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:13:39 JST Christi Junior @Rasterman I gotta say, I can't really work up the outrage about BotW 2 costing the same as Forspoken. On the other hand, it IS kinda bullshit that the game costs more than superior games like Xenoblade 2. -
Rasterman (rasterman@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:13:39 JST Rasterman @ChristiJunior Forspoken was right to cost more. It deserves to have a nigger tax for anyone willing to purchase it.
TotK hasn't even come out yet. How can Tutorials be better? Even I considered Dread might be better than Super before I got to play it. This is next-level shilling. But I dislike Zelda less than you, which is surprising.
Unless you already played it on emulator. I was tempted to download it, since I already paid for my copy; but it will spoil the moment of starting it on the console X number of weeks from now, when the Paraguayan contrabandists bring my copy into the country. -
Rasterman (rasterman@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:13:40 JST Rasterman Tears of the Kingdom is $70‽ What a bunch of kikes. And here I thought my games monger had lost his edge. I also thought inflation had increased the price that much, but no, it was just Nintendo being cute. :merchant_toon:
On a different note, Ryujinx runs on Windows, Mac and Linux; while Yuzu runs on Windows and Linux. -
Rasterman (rasterman@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:17:53 JST Rasterman @ChristiJunior So, basically, I gotta expect another excellent OST. Well, that's a relief. :0010:
Who asked for that title? If I'm the Fediverse's biggest Zelda defender, then Zelda is down bad around these parts. I only played 4 games, finished 3 and liked 2.
Also, shilling OoT that much will make the time I play it have so much hype that there won't be a chance the game lives up to it. -
xianc78@gameliberty.club's status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 08:17:53 JST xianc78 @rasterman @ChristiJunior OOT (and the rest of the Zelda series) will be total dogshit once you get into the Ys series. Stop listening to these Nintendo peasants.

That's a different genre, you can't really compare the two. Zelda is action adventure and, at least looking at the gameplay for Ys IX, Zelda is a lot slower and more deliberate with its combat and exploration. I've been interested in playing them for a while though, even downloaded one at some point but just never got around to it. Something about JRPGs just doesn't hook me a whole lot.

xianc78@gameliberty.club's status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 09:14:57 JST xianc78 @beardalaxy @rasterman @ChristiJunior I know they are two separate genres but they are similar enough. I think Zelda fans would really like Ys, especially the later games.
To me, action-adventures, action RPGs, and metroidvanias are compatible with each other. If you like one genre you would like the other ones as well.

Rasterman (rasterman@detroitriotcity.com)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 10:21:14 JST Rasterman @xianc78 @ChristiJunior @beardalaxy I don't know what I'm looking at. Do you have versions of Ys that need to be compiled like some Linux program or something? -
xianc78@gameliberty.club's status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 10:21:14 JST xianc78 @rasterman @ChristiJunior @beardalaxy You were suggesting a game. I told you to make that game yourself, if you want to see it happen. That link was just a link to a multimedia framework which I use to make games.
No, you don't need to compile Ys. Just emulate the PSP version.

They share similarities, but ultimately you'll have tons of people who prefer one style of gameplay over the other or even just like them for different reasons.
I think the games zelda is most comparable to outside of the action adventure genre are like, 3d platformers that feature combat. Even then though, those games are all level based instead of having a big, dynamic world for the player to explore pretty much freely.

xianc78@gameliberty.club's status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 11:26:02 JST xianc78 @beardalaxy @rasterman @ChristiJunior If you play any of the Ys games, especially the later ones, you quickly learn that it's just basically Zelda with experience points (basically the only thing that keeps Zelda from being considered a true RPG). Ys puts an emphasis on exploration just like Zelda, but has the experience points and leveling up that you expect in an action-RPG.
Also, believe it or not, Zelda and Ys were basically rival franchises for a brief time. Though, it wasn't as big as OOT vs FFVII. It was only briefly during the 1980s in Japan. Ys was scene as the PC gamer's equivalent to Zelda and vice versa. Ys III even tried to copy Zelda II by being a side-scroller.
>I think the games zelda is most comparable to outside of the action adventure genre are like, 3d platformers that feature combat.
Yeah, I can see that. I like to think Zelda influenced the non-linearity in 3D games like Super Mario 64. But then again, I think Zelda had an influence on non-linear action games period: action-adventures, action-RPGs, Metroidvanias, platform adventures, sandbox games, etc. Pretty much all of them have openly admitted to having some influence to Zelda, whether directly or indirectly.
