   @VTArgyle Runescape is the first thing that came to my mind. What you can do is try to make a little more shading between the handle and crossguard to give it just a tad bit more depth without compromising the overall look.
   
   Also, Necesse is a game that is trying to target that old school graphics in a very similar way you have here.

     Thinking I could do more with the handle...but not sure what yet
