   One of the things I’ve really cottoned to in recent years is how far behind the power curve you are as an only child. You really benefit from getting to know women when you have sisters, it’s a chance to learn how to manage them w/o sexuality being involved. You have to maintain a relationship on good terms w/o being able to tap into that bonding effort.

   Only children have a few disadvantages they don’t really notice, dating is one of them. They end up playing catch up when they start finding a gf…and the later they start, the less forgiving their girlfriends will be. It’s a rough, sad cycle.

     @Victor_Emmanuel A whole lot of my understanding of women is derived from my sister coming in to have late night soul-bearing chats about everything under the sun. It was like getting a peek into her server logs, where I would ask retarded male POV questions like “why not just tell her how you feel?“ only to be taught about the totally foreign mental landscape of the female mind.

     I learned how to have fights, how to make up, how to put her in a good mood, how to help her grow, how to protect her, how to talk to other women, probably a whole lot more I don’t really even understand today. She was always there to help me decipher my exes, always first in the room after my dates to talk about the red flags that were only visible to her. I’d be much worse off w/o my sister, it would have been harder to break out of that silly frame of mind as a guy where girls are this inscrutable, indecipherable creature.

     I’d still be saying stupid stuff like “ but WHY does she wanna talk about her problems if she doesn’t wanna FIX them?!?!?!?“

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Victor_Emmanuel I have a sister only a year older than me and all it’s done is make me bitter at how much better her life is without even trying, I know it’s dumb to compare but still, we had nearly identical grades in high school (We both did well on ACTs/SATs) and yet she got the scholarships, she got the high paying job straight out of college (I had to struggle for years to work my way up), she never had trouble finding someone to marry, all it’s done is really make me realize how easy wahmens can have it if they aren’t retarded, don’t whore around, and have realistic expectations.

     (And ofc I love my sister and am genuinely happy for her, just frustrated at how much harder I’ve had to work for even less results despite starting in nearly identical life situations.)

     @synapsid @Victor_Emmanuel Ah, you probably had that egalitarian thing everyone does. I’ve always been happy things are easy for her. I don’t care that she walked right into a charmed life as a housewife, she’s such a sweetheart I don’t want her life to go any other way than perfect.

     Growing up she was the one who took care of everyone but herself. She would get up first after dinner and try to grab your plate, she would just start cleaning on a saturday morning so people could wake up to a clean home. She’s just outward-looking in the way she is, which is why we all strove so hard to take care of her.

     Whenever we complained about her being exempted from stuff the boys had to do, dad woule remind us that life as a woman isn’t that much easier, because they have to do it as a woman. Not so much a slight as the recognition that they aren’t built to handle the burdens we are. Molehills are mountains, things that cause us minor career irritation are looming, ulcerative crises to the girls. Sure, it’s ‘easy mode’ in a way, but it’s still hard for many of them because they’re not as good at the game.

     @LukeAlmighty @Victor_Emmanuel You have to be smart enough to make it work. She can still actually be useful, in that she’s able to verbalize her instincts better than regular girls. They usually crap out pretty quick, dropping their answers to “I don’t know, I just, ugh! I just do, okay?”

     @Victor_Emmanuel If it weren’t for her giving my gf her blessing I’d never have made the plunge I did, come to think about it. When I was talking to her about how sad it was that I’d have to head back home after vacation and go back to my bachelor lifestyle she was the one who said it wasn’t THAT crazy of an idea to take her with me. She said she “had a really good feeling about her” that she hadn’t gotten with any of the rest.

     I trusted her take, I knew I was getting into something that could have been ruinous, but knowing my sister - someone who idolizes me and wants nothing but the best for my life - gave her blessing to the gamble made it easier to roll the dice

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Victor_Emmanuel I get what you're saying and not to derail your thread but this wisdom only applies to relatively intact families where the father is strong (not a simpering cuck) and the mother is loving (not a cold misandrist bitch). If any woman ever treated me the way my older sisters did when I was smaller than them, I'm not able to say what I would do to her without getting a knock at my door. And I *strongly* suspect there's a not-insignificant number of White guys out there that had similar experiences. That being said, I'm sure a decent sister is worth her weight in gold
