> Currently, cryptomining firms do not have to pay for the full cost they impose on others, in the form of local environmental pollution, higher energy prices, and the impacts of increased greenhouse gas emissions on the climate.
So basically nobody does but you're going to put a 30% additional tax only on crypto and leave every single subsidy alone.
> higher energy prices
if this were true, and it's not but for the sake of argument lets say it was, why is the solution to give the federal government more taxes as opposed to say, just charging them the correct price?

@Moon Remember when they determined that 25% of ISP bandwidth comes from streaming services and Reddit shat a brick over ISPs throttling them to save on infrastructure?
It's to the point that I see someone talking about climate change as the cause for something and assume they're masking the real cause behind what they're doing.

@Moon because they want the CDBC to be the only crypto and they need bullshit that sounds good?
kind of like them printing the entire money supply for zelensky's cocaine fund but then claiming amazon charging money causes inflation lmao

@mrsaturday to some extent crypto mining does raise electricity costs but it literally is just a god damn demand curve, by this logic if anyone buys anything it "unfairly" raises the cost of that thing. The statement doesn't make any sense without an additional value judgment about the use of that power which their policy paper just takes as a given.

@Moon >to some extent crypto mining does raise electricity costs
Yes but so do EVs and they're trying to make them mandatory
-
@Moon just mine monero on P2Pool on a old laptop and call it a day
-
@Moon "muh environment" is a retarded reason to be anti-crypto
-
@meso the lie part bothers me more than the anti crypto part, not least of which is I'm an Ethereum partisan, which moved away from proof of work already.
-
@noyoushutthefuckupdad @meso you could argue that charging a tesla has better utility to society than bitcoin mining. I won't make that argument and they didn't directly make the argument either though, having an open conversation over how people are allowed to use electricity is a can of worms. do you really _need_ a 4K TV and nice graphics card?

@Moon @meso
>crypto is bad because it requires electricity
>brb, gotta spend 12 hours recharging my Tesla
