@hfaust it's a pretty good general "just work" distro, in which the package manager should have mostly everything you want. It's all "stable" so it's not on the cutting edge of everything so you don't have the latest ver of some progs. When it works, it just simply all work. In 5+ years of usage, never had a single bad update or it breaking for no reasons
Since it works with slightly older package, you might have trouble compiling cutting edge stuff
