I doubt that's the case. Xenoblade 2 sold heaps more than 1 and X.
I won't go into too much detail yet, but the gist of my theory is that Takahashi is tired of repeating the same kind of story over and over again since Gears. Yet whenever he tries to branch away from those roots, he always finds himself sucked back towards trying to recreate perfect works.
@ignika98@ArdainianRight People have been psy-opped into believing more ridiculous things, and the fanservice nerf in 3 was real. You might blame the Japanese censors for that, but that wouldn't explain the sudden and dramatic uptick in dark-skinned characters (Future Redeemed surprisingly reverses this!), which smacks more of Muh Global Standards.
Thankfully Xenoblade 3 still had plenty of genuinely Based themes to compensate.
@ArdainianRight@ignika98 Wait, so all that talk about the Endless Now was basically just Takashi dunking on himself? Based if true, most other storytellers prefer attacking their fans.
@ChristiJunior@ignika98 I don't think it was just him dunking on himself, but it was at least partially that. Rare to see a storyteller with any self-awareness.
@ArdainianRight@ignika98 If Juniper *was* "nonbinary" representation, it's the tamest, most Problematic "enby" representation they could have possibly gone with.
@William_The_Dragonborn@ChristiJunior@ignika98 Saga remake is more likely, both because Bamco is tighter with Nintendo than Squeenix and because of stuff that I will not discuss because spoilers.
I meant in terms of fanservice in the actual story, not the character designs. But even then, none of the DLC outfits are 1:1 recreations of the originals. Euine's is a mix between both Melia and Fiora, Taion's is missing the wings and has gold accents added to it, Noah has a different hoodie and Lanz has way less orange. They're all slightly edited to better fit the Xenoblade 3 cast. Cause, lets be real, Mio is way to modest to wear the kind of outfit Nia does in her blade form, and Sena doesn't have the chest to pull of Brighid's outfit at all.
IMO if it really was full on censorship, they would have only changed the offending parts of the original designs ala Super Smash Bros.
Xenoblade 2 is honestly an outlier in the series when it comes to fanservice. None of the other Xeno games had that kind of approach to it. Then again, it fit in Xenoblade 2's case since the story is all about Rex maturing as a person and learning what it means to "be a man".
@ignika98@ArdainianRight Can't agree on that, given how Xenoblade 1 and X literally let you strip your female characters down to skimpy bras and panties, with Seven straight up showing ass crack in one of her armors (possibly the optimal one, actually).
Xenoblade 2 has the horniest default outfits, but overall Pyra and Mythra actually show way less skin than the Xenoblade 1 girls can do (except maybe Melia, because she's like 16 by High Entia standards, so she kinda gets the Lin treatment). Xenoblade 3 straight up nerfs DLC outfits referencing Xenoblade 2 characters.
@ArdainianRight@William_The_Dragonborn@ignika98 I'd say that all the KOS-MOS love in Xenoblade 2 should guarantee Xenosaga on a Nintendo system eventually, but then again, Nintendo has been shilling Roy for more than 20 years without ever making Fire Emblem 6 available in the West.
Saga is way more deserving of a remake, honestly. People talk about how Gears story got fucked in development, but at least that game was able to somewhat realize it's vision, even if they had to sacrifice actual gameplay.
Xenosaga's story went completely off the rails right after the first game, and the entire third game had to be spent cleaning up the mess that the second one made. We never even got a chance to see what the original plan for the series was before Bamco decided to rape the series into oblivion.
Not to mention the fact that gears is way more accessible, and the only way to play Saga nowadays is to emulate it, or pay out the ass for 3 overpriced old ps2 games.
@ignika98@ChristiJunior@William_The_Dragonborn Saga emulation is also incredibly buggy. Heaven help you if you don't use save states and try to save the game using regular save points.
