Christi JuniorSo, I've gotten to some really story-heavy parts of Xenoblade 3 Future Redeemed, and without Spoiling, it definitely seems to be a legitimate sci-fi fantasy reason they've been so coy about A's sex, it's certainly not gender ideology bullshit. It's actually kinda weird that the localization didn't opt for "them", because this might just be one of those rare cases where it would be justified. Maybe that's the reason they avoided it, lol.
Still weird how none of the NPCs refer to what seems to be an obviously female character with female pronouns, but whatever.
@ChristiJunior As far as I can tell, A is just a female version of Alvis, the "unconscious female within the male," or something like that. But both A and Alvis are androgynous because Ontos itself is genderless as opposed to the male Logos and the female Pneuma.
@ChristiJunior Initially it felt a little too similar to 3, but it quickly outgrew that roughly around the time you get a full Party. Balance is a bit of an issue because of how OP Rex is and how rewarding it can be to invest most of your resources into powering him up, but otherwise it's a great experience.
@ArdainianRight Also, to not torment Raster more than necessary, I'll continue my Future Redeemed thoughts in this thread:
Rex is mad fun to use, but given what an Aggro hog he is, he can die very quickly (he's quite frankly WAY too much of a beefcake to be as squishy as he is, but obviously that was necessary from a balancing perspective.)
I actually kinda feel Matthew can be a superior Attacker, given his Evasion Art (which can possibly instantly be recharged) partially dealing with the Aggro problem, and his big power boost against the strong monsters you NEED him to be strong against. If Rex is actually stronger, I guess that's because the damage boost you get from Critical hits stacks in formidable ways.
@ArdainianRight Imagine Rex together with Mythra in this game - THAT damage output AND Foresight's evasion. Oh, and make him canonically bulky too, ain't no way Shulk & son have more HP than Gigachad Rex.
@ArdainianRight It also shows that he's actually quite smart (which should have been obvious if you paid attention to XB2's story, and didn't hold it against him that the wise adults and the Literal Supercomputer know more than him), it would have been SO easy for Monolith Soft to portray Rex as the Dumb Muscleman Himbo to Shulk's Wise Nerd, but they didn't even entertain that notion.
I trust Monolith to handle their own characters better than that. Rex is in no way, shape or form a himbo. He's a self made man from a young age. I don't know why anyone would think otherwise.
@ignika98@ArdainianRight Monolith Soft treats their characters so well. While I desperately wished that Xenoblade 3 connected more strongly to the past games, the characterization of the two old characters that DID return was pretty much perfection. And I mean perfection in the correct "literally couldn't have been written better" sense, not the generic "really, really good" sense.
I have a kind of meta-analysis theory of how Takahashi uses the Xenoblade trilogy to express his feelings as a creator that could explain why 3 is so "detached" from the other two games, but I'm waiting until I finish Future Redeemed before I draw any conclusions.
@ignika98@ArdainianRight I assumed it was to make the game more accessible to newcomers, especially if he believed that bullshit about Xenoblade 2's "sexualized designs" having limited the appeal of that game. I could be and indeed hope that I am wrong.
That has always been one of Xenoblade's major strengths, you get so much experience from just EXPLORING and otherwise doing interesting stuff, rather than having to repetitively beat up the same handful of monsters.
Also, while I LOVE the fact that Xenoblade 3 has a proper Hard Mode (Bringer of Chaos is possible even more retarded than Three Houses's Maddening mode), its early game actually did force me to grind just a tiny bit, against that fucking Ropl you fight together with Mwamba of all things; your combat options are just so limited, and you can't convert bonus EXP into levels yet, that the only way to beat it was to get 1 additional level from fighting enemies.
Then again, I might not have given Lanz the best Arts at the time, when I eventually replay the game I'll definitely test it out.
@ChristiJunior Bringer of Chaos I thought was a good difficulty for New Game Plus. Trying to go in just on a new game with none of the skill trees or Blade options tends to not go so well.
