   Republican legislators in Montana today banned Democrat #ZooeyZephyr from attending floor sessions of the House, after previously disallowing her from speaking in these sessions— their response to Zephyr’s floor speech telling them they would have blood on their hands if they passed a law banning gender-affirming medical treatment for trans young people.      Across the U.S., at every level and each branch of government, the Republican Party is trying to use the trappings and institutions of pluralist constitutional democracy to undo pluralist constitutional democracy. They are creating kangaroo courts, kangaroo legislatures, kangaroo governors and presidents - institutions and actors that mimic the form of democratic governance but in fact use antidemocratic, anti-rule-of-law tactics to seize and retain power. 3/

     By supporting Democratic electeds who are particularly targeted by these dishonest and dangerous tactics, we achieve multiple goals simultaneously. We make tangible our resistance to authoritarianism and our commitment to pluralist democracy and rule of law. We keep progressivism alive in communities where it is most beleaguered and we boost the resources and reach of local progressives, boosting their momentum.      … We also get into the habit of giving what we can when we can to electeds who are daily working to keep democracy alive in the U.S., sometimes, like #ZooeyZephyr or the #TennesseeThree, under conditions of appalling adversity. In this way, we too work to keep democracy alive. 5/
