     But almost all Fedi instances have a web app component already. I'm surprised this is even a question 😕
     
     I've been supportive of PWAs from the start, because app devs sometimes leave out things for personal/other reasons and this results in a broken experience that makes Fedi look bad.

     If you were signed in, then yes. Certain functions require you to be signed in, even on an app. This is because the relationships API requires authentication, especially for users that hide their follow list.
     
     Some people in this community consider Firefox a sell out and might not trust it that much. If they created their own instance, as Vivaldi did, I'd certainly say Hello.

     @masstransitkrow most of what I describe in that post cannot be done by default web apps of each instance. Take as the first glaring example: if I land on your Fediverse page in my browser, I can't tell if I already follow you.

     If you want to view your relationship with a remote account, tap its picture. The locally stored profile will then show on the right hand window and you can view that info without visiting Nineties Mysteries. You can also use this menu to take action on a profile or its domain without interacting with 9MS at all.
     
     Your API will talk to mine and will apply the changes you ask for.

     @masstransitkrow i want to be clear. If I'm surfing the web, and I'm logged into *my* instance, and in surfing, I land on your Fediverse page at *your* instance, then i can't immediately see if I follow you, and to check is not easy or obvious.

     That's a serious UX issue. Are you saying that isn't supposed to work? In my opinion that is completely broken and breaks a typical user's expectations.

     The only time you're sent to a remote profile page is if the instance does not have a stored copy, or your instance admin has a policy that restricts or alters that instance's messages.
     
     Mastodon changed remote follow behavior with version 4.0. You can no longer follow a Mastodon page remotely unless you make the attempt from a logged in instance.
     
     Pleroma 2.4.3 supports remote follow. But to make it work, you need to tell the API what instance you want to act from. Once you do, and the follow request is sent, you're returned to your instance and a local copy of the account you followed is now available.
