@1ns0mniak they are just trying to pump up the fear so people accept whatever insane rules government comes up with to protect them from that T-1000 I'm working on in my basement.
@1ns0mniak oh yeah I don't think we have to worry too much about the kille robots just yet, but I just mean they drum up the fear so they can regulate it to death. Ultimately AI is here to stay. It's just a question of who will be most advantaged by it's use. With the right regulations you can be sure only big business and government collect the bulk of the rewards, and anyone challenging that is a criminal.
@thatguyoverthere It kind of reminds me of that period around 1998, when everyone in the media was going on and on about what wonders they imagined the internet was going to bring someday.
"You can genetically engineer your children from your laptop!"
I think we're a few decades off from having to worry about T-1000's. (hopefully)
@1ns0mniak yeah on the occasion they happen to ask a good question they don't understand the answers anyway. It wouldn't be so terrible for a bunch of 80 year olds to be so out of tune if they didn't want to then turn around and regulate things they have no understanding of. The truth is the regulations come from industry "experts" and the legislators are just cosigners. It's terrifying. I'm not sure if I've read through the EARNIT bill (doesn't ring a bell), but now I'm gonna have to go play catchup
@thatguyoverthere Ever watch one of those congressional hearings where they drag in tech CEO's? It's insane how our elected officials understand things like social media, and the internet.
That scares me a lot man, they just reintroduced that EARNIT bill. Thing is a goddamn surveillance nightmare.
The thing is, they're all so bought off. You can look up which company donates the most to a person and than listen to what they say, it's always direct talking points they've been fed.
@1ns0mniak Yeah what a joke. what do you suppose they'd have the color on today? I'm willing to bet it hasn't moved from orange since they stopped posting it everywhere haha.
I don't fly much, but I imagine TSA is still just as invasive and annoying and slow as it was the last time I did too. They stopped showing us because our conditioning was complete. Now they can call anyone a terrorist and the plebs know exactly how to respond (even though few could actually define terrorist). They can also avoid the word when people are doing real terrorism and everything becomes "mostly peaceful".
