@skylar Yeah yeah, whatever, that’s EVERY laptop, every distro, every PC is crap. Until someone comes out with some lineup of semi-modular pc building for notebooks we gotta deal with compromise
HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF
Dang I’m too lazy to make it but it’d be a funny meme for a thinkpad w/ all the Little Dark Age nazi memorabilia next to the holocaust computer
Really love how all the articles (informed by this cheesy book) about the IBM/nazi connection make copious reference to how “SHOCKED” the world was by the holocaust.
For someone steeped in documentation from the era, it’s kind of hard to believe he isn’t willingly lying. Nobody gave a shit about the “holocaust” until decades later, when memory was fuzzy enough for the hyperbole to stick in the public consciousness.
@SuperSnekFriend @berkberkman I think they’re just NOW killing off the last of the removable battery, square business ones. I am surprised at how many thinkpads I see, along with way overbought gaming laptops w/ gigantic graphics cards because that’s the only thing that looks top of the line at costco
@berkberkman @SuperSnekFriend AFAIK trackpoint has a few years to go. IBM paid for the dev when the inventor started working on it. Should be up for grabs soon, but….. I wouldn’t hold my breath.
There’s some cool audio of the ISS crew when they first got them that’s pretty fun to listen to
@SuperSnekFriend @berkberkman Only seen one keyboard with a trackpoint https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3924
$280 and the trackpoint sucks tho
@berkberkman @SuperSnekFriend I suspect it’s another example of “super niche audience who loudly complains, but would never pony up for a brand-new product”.
The people who love the clit most are happy just buying older used models instead of a brand new one.
@TeaTootler @SuperSnekFriend @berkberkman Aren’t they dome keys though? I thought the one you want is the older 06 model because it’s more stiff and mechy
@TeaTootler @SuperSnekFriend @berkberkman I want the old one w/ 4 trackpad buttons, been keeping an eye out since I’m sure someone will throw one away in some office
@WashedOutGundamPilot @berkberkman @SuperSnekFriend They make a full-sized successor https://tex.com.tw/products/shinobi?variant=16969883648090 The trackpoint on the Shinobi is pretty good, the extra lever distance on it feels alright. There’s also cute details like being able to map the middle mouse button to Fn, solving the age-old fn/ctrl order conflict. Not cheap ofc but the modern Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint™ gave me RSI symptoms for the first time in my life and they went away when I stopped trying to use it. The Lenovo ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II™ is slightly better quality but much more expensive and still bad overall.
Always wanted a SK-8855 with US/ANSI layout but they’re out of production and the used market looks counterfeit af.
