Still dont get why people dox vchuubas, like nigga just enjoy the character why you gotta ruin the illusion?
-
@rlier23 They do it specifically to try and ruin the illusion. They don't like fans of someone they don't like being happy.

@Ronnie21093 Is it ruining the illusion? I won't lie, I'm always curious about the person behind the mask so to speak, but maybe that's because I'm always grounded in reality in some way, and I know there's an actor playing the character.
That being said, it doesn't really ruin it for me... I just... understand the nature of the medium, I guess. Hopefully that makes sense... :yoko_think:

@Cayhr @rlier23 Being curious about who is behind the mask is fine, but one shouldn't be actively spreading it against the talent's wishes.
-
@Ronnie21093 True, it's not like I'm going out of my way to unmask them.

@Cayhr @Ronnie21093 looking for the actora and unmasking them breaks the sense of aestethic
Since 2d doesnt work well with 3d

@rlier23 Idk, I don't think it breaks the aesthetic. Again it's just a me thing because my brain automatically acknowledges that there is an actor behind the character. I'm also not super invested in the character as a result, but I enjoy the memes and clips and fanart nonetheless.
...that's just how I am. I'm always grounded in reality.

@rlier23 ...did I convey something incorrectly? I don't think I said you didn't know that... I guess what I was trying to say was: it doesn't matter to >>me<< if the person behind the mask or the tricks behind the magic are revealed or not. Maybe unnecessarily since I think you got the point the first time I responded. I guess this is a more emotionally charged topic than I thought it was :jahy_sweat:
But yeah, I do agree with your analogy with the magic show. I guess we can just sum it up with: "Actors should be left alone to do their performance, and the audience should enjoy and critique as appropriate."

@Cayhr @Ronnie21093 you're talking as if i don't understand that theres a person behind the avatar, when i fucking do but if someone is gonna play a character then let them fuckin do it
It's like going to a magic show and inmediately shouting what the performers are doing and ruining the mood for everyone

@Cayhr @Ronnie21093 @rlier23 I'd say the youtube algorithm itself is a part of the "doxxing" problem. Be me: have been watching some Hololive Vtubers gee I wonder why youtube is recommending these meat space Japanese streamers. Click on them to watch them for a bit. Their voices sounds strangely familiar oh wait :thonk: Oh crap these are Vtubers.
Youtube has "doxxed" Matsuri, Okayu, Rushia and Coco identities for me and I prefer not to known the faces behind them nor did I actively searched for them.
