They have insane capabilities I have a Toshiba cook book from like the 80's that tells you how to cook every part of gormet meals with a microwave. I personally love cooking scrambled eggs and bacon in there its convenient Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

I've seen whole cookbooks from the 70s or 80s for microwaves at used bookstores and that's pretty neat, but I've never had anything cooked in a microwave that retained it's texture. I generally prefer my food cooked over fire. My oven and stove are propane. Sometimes I'll use a slow cooker or pressure cooker. We also have an air fryer I sometimes use to reheat things.
It could be a skill issue but my preference for smokey flavors probably has led to that. My skill has developed more around the grill and smoker. -

Ive felt recently that technology gets lost on most users because of a lack of attention span. Like most people don't know their hand from their own ass when it comes to basic computer operations, using calculators, or any sort of tech. Pretty much they get one use out of it and that's as much as their sad brains can handle Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

I suppose you could pan sear before microwave but at that point you really aren't saving much time or cleanup so afaict all the value of convenience is gone for a still substandard steak. -

When I do pan fry steaks it's only a few minutes on either side. I have a cast iron so it gets that nice chared flavor tooDisinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -
Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 20-Apr-2023 22:58:48 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: @1ns0mniak @Soy_Magnus @xianc78 @thegreatape yeah personally I prefer the grill, pan fried, or even in a broiler (my broiler is real fire). Steak really doesn't take long to cook (unless you hate steak and cook it until it's grey) no matter what you use to cook it. I guess the advantage with a microwave might be no need to preheat, but that comes at a cost of flavor and texture.
Grilling takes the longest because you need the coals to get hot before you can even start worrying about grill temps (propane is an option, but coals are better), but that's also where I think the best steaks will be cooked, and if you have a bunch to do the efficiency gains quickly mount since you can parallelize the cooking. -

I can in theory grill but I have to go over to the park across the street and it's such a hassle.
Way easier to just pan fry, I mena I can whip up a steak with asparagus or something in prob around 15 minutes at most, mainly because of said asparagus.Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

It's kind of like grilling upside down. The broiler heats up pretty quickly compared to the oven because it's just a lot less space, and the rack is pretty close to the heat source so you get something that almost resembles a grill experience. They also make electric indoor smokers I think although I've never used one. Wood smoke is one thing a broiler or cast iron lacks.
