   @VBurner @Twoinchdestroya @ChurnHinge @Zealist @JedKron1248 You have to buy your own. For the kids I just let them use spray paint, some brands and matte finishes are passable and it’s much easier than setting up the airbrush and hood for a bunch of 8-12 yos.

   The end result is actually okay a good amount of the time, but it REALLY varies by make and type. If you want cost-effective and cheap, it’s hard to beat a $3 can of matte krylon. Once you get the feel for it, THEN you can drop $350 on all the finishing essentials.

   I’m just not big on telling noobs to blow a ton of money on the hobby when they don’t even know if they like it or not. Start small, and buy the gear once you know what you like and want. Otherwise you just have another eyesore in the closet making you feel guilty for wasting money on something you only used once

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @VBurner @Twoinchdestroya @ChurnHinge @JedKron1248 as i got into this hobby i just started only putting them together, then i thought about maybe painting one one day, so i bought a couple tubes of model paint a pack of cheap brushes and some primer, firs tone i ever did, i had brush on primer, vallejo model paint and brush on clear coat, i hated it, i immediately expanded my pile of shit on the table by buying cans of spray on primer and clear coat, THEN i decided the cans of branded model shit were too expensive for so little ammount, so i got bigger cans of spray on primer and then looked for that krylon, bought more basic paints more brushes buncha extra shit yo need to bother painting in the first place, then i wanted to do a complete custom job, so i bought modelling putty, and more paints, and more various shit that would be nice to have hwile doing x or y, and it just starts piling up, get it as you need it once you figure out that you need it to make your hobby more enjoyable easier or nicer looking etc.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Zealist @VBurner @Twoinchdestroya @ChurnHinge @JedKron1248 It’s a kind of “gatekeeping” that relies on money rather than skill or knowledge, a cope for rich NPCs that are mid (at best) at whatever hobby they’re doing.

     @Zealist @VBurner @Twoinchdestroya @ChurnHinge @JedKron1248 The harbor freight one is okay, the slightly bigger LVHP or whatever. I’m not quite sure it’s going to hold up for 10 years but I put mine through the ringer pretty hard, did alright

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @VBurner @Twoinchdestroya @ChurnHinge @JedKron1248 you just buy what you need, which ain't a lot, figure out if you even like the hobby, if you like it and start learning why how if and when to do various things techniques and what not, and what tools and supplies would make those techniques and jobs easier, you learn as you go, and it makes it satisfying to be like "i got too much shit i gotta invest in some storage for all this crap i use to make plastic models look cooler" LOL. i have every confidence in the idea that i'm going to evenutally break down and buy an airbrush at least for base coating, then brushing on details later, BUT i'm not there yet so i'm not dropping tha tkinda money, if i've been doing this hobby for a few years i might go for it.
