     @phnt Oh that explains what this "iftas" I've been seeing in @fba is. Setting up a whole fucking non-profit to support fedi jannies, I'm surirsed there isn't an impressum linked on main page since only a g*rman mind can come up with that.

     @mint @fba It's a few "volunteers", some of which are recognizable at least to me.

     There's the guy that brought us the AP is unsafe by design gem of an article or the I welcome [...] sex worker Twitter to the fediverses article. Don't actually bother reading them, it's not worth for the short laugh at the headline.

     And then there's the psycho face writer and researcher.

     As for what IFTAS does, they run a blocklist that isn't available to the public without logging in with a Mastodon account and possibly creating an account with them (IFTAS Connect/CARIAD/FediCheck). And also publish a DNI list that is almost a year old. The only public way to view updated parts of the blocklists is to read their news blogs about them. And on that note, they've recently put boymoder.biz on the DNI list and removed cum.salon from it.

     They also run two Mastodon instances mastodon.iftas.org and sandbox.mastodon.iftas.org (latter is used as a sandbox for janny training) and made a pointless assessment with a survey about trust and safety.

     All in all it looks to me like the typical non-profit scheme that gets donations/support from governments with zero reasons to exist, ie. a grift.

     Literally why, boybiz hasn't had a new post in months while salon keeps on rollin.

     I hope they're ont getting this number from public APIs since hiding blocklists became quite common ever since FBA entered the public consciousness.

     I think they have access to hidden instance blocklists from at least a few bigger instances. And since you must login with your Mastodon admin account to their blocklist portal, they might have access to all instance blocklists from instances that use IFTAS.
