They go ballistic over Mary's perpetual virginity because the gospel mentions Jesus's "brothers," though there are multiple ways of reconciling the two which are up for debate. One explanation involves the tradition of St. Joseph being an older man with children from a previous marriage, whereas the other one states that the word for "brothers" means cousins. I personally think the notion of St. Joseph being an older widower makes the most sense, and him being deceased at the time of Jesus's ministry would explain his conspicuous absence from those events, while Mary was present. Either way, that's nowhere near comparable to going against teachings Jesus explicitly made, like outlawing divorce and the Real Presence in the Eucharist.-
