So Hollywood solved the problem of all their big movies bombing by severely lowering expectations and lying about the size of their budgets. - Kenny Blankenship likes this.

@notabnormal The problem isn't the modern setting, with digital effects you can make period films more cheaply than ever if that was the only issue.
The problem is the massive tidal wave of 'content', particularly free streaming on Youtube and Twitch, diluting the audience. Never mind the hundreds of cable channels, multiple pay streaming services and the 900 pound gorilla that has been outgrossing movies for decades - video games.Kenny Blankenship likes this. -

@judgedread @notabnormal Triple-A studios are hard at work killing even the most beloved vidya franchises, but modders and the indie scene are in the trenches and tunnels fighting back Kenny Blankenship likes this. -

Born in the early 80's, I thought a consistent flow of good original movies done by likable and familiar actors and actresses would continue on forever. Smart phones are hard to write into movies and still make them pop like Jaws did, I hear. -

@TrevorGoodchild @judgedread @notabnormal For both movies and vidya, Zog studios have a massive problem with bloated budgets.
The japs made Godzilla Minus One for just $12 mil, and the chinks only spent $40 mil on Black Myth Wukong. Compare that to US studios spending $400 mil to make and market shit about about Strong Tranny Nig Women -

@DW2 It's obvious there is massive corruption and parasite load in Hollywood.
When George Lucas was paying for the prequels with his own money he produced three effects heavy films with thousands of props, dozens of sets and hundreds of costumes for $100 million per.
By 2012 that was considered low budget, and the early 21st century had low inflation. In fact lower cost computers should have made the CG cheaper.Kenny Blankenship likes this. -

@judgedread The Acolyte supposedly cost $230 million to make for one eight episode season, and it looks like something you’d see twenty years ago on a Saturday afternoon on the SciFi channel
