   vox pops where americans say that that 1/3 is bigger than 1/2 are my guilty pleasure. i know they've been meticulously selected for, but it still doesn't make them any less fun to watch!

     You don't need to meticulously select for it. Fast food restaurants figure out how stupid most people are when they release for example a third pound burger to compete with McDonald's quarter pounder. They routinely believe that the quarter pounder is larger and then the product fails.
