@RustyCrab @Awoo @complicatedRegrets @IAMAL_PHARIUS I'm sick of you Alderaan truthers. Alderaan was destroyed, and it should have been! Their senator, Leia Organa, was part of a rebellion against the Empire, and threatened the galactic peace. If those terrorists hadn't destroyed the Peace Star as it was bringing freedom to Yavin, the Galactic Empire could have survived a thousand years!

@Awoo @complicatedRegrets @IAMAL_PHARIUS @RustyCrab Grand Moff Tarkin is a hero of the empire, but he was wrong in this case. I would not call it stupid, as Tarkin was working with what he understood about warfare. But this was terrorism, not warfare, and fear emboldens terrorists. Wonderweapons are great for propaganda, but if they're ever halted, or fail unexpectedly, they become the butt of jokes.
The empire already had, tested, and deployed the absolute triumph in the form of the Star Destroyer, with support ships in the form of the TIE fighters. They could drop a fleet right into the orbit of a rebelling system, and suppress their terrorists with bombardments.
And as long as you bring along some equipped with hyperspace interdicters, no terrorist will escape Imperial Troopers that make landfall after a bombardment.
In other words, to paraphrase Lord Vader, "It takes more than technological superiority to win a conflict. It takes a triumph of the Will."

On a slight related note.
What do you guys think about the Tarkin Doctrine? Good idea or stupid?
