@arstechnica this is all senseless. As in, without a sense of reason or logic.
A few points:1) Copyright is broken.
2) training data is is fair use if you purchase the text. Arbitrarily modifying that text privately should be legal. You should be able to open your text in any arbitrary program (yes: even a music player).
3) Pay writers for their work.
4) output of LLM’s should be subject to copyright, which is how it works now.
5) information should be open/free (after a certain point). -

I have to ask if their ISP sent them a "your IP address was identified as an illegal file-sharing address and cease and desist or action will be taken" email.
My son installed torrent software to grab an out of production game for his girlfriend and we got that email within an hour of his infraction. It was a very threatening email.
If Meta torrented, they were, by definition, sharing as they did so and were guilty of file sharing and piracy. No repercussions?
