@noyoushutthefuckupdad and @coolboymew, my "anime to watch" list is getting a bit short. Would you mind giving me your top 3-5 "hidden gems" per decade starting in the 80s and ending in the 2010s? -

@lykanthrocide @coolboymew @noyoushutthefuckupdad Speaking as a guy who has not watched as many anime movies and shows as the others here.
>80's
Kikou Ryouhei Mellowlink - A super cool hunter-hunted plot set in the same universe as VOTOMS.
Dominion Tank Police - Fun romp in a dystopian sci-fi city. Police with freaking tanks! Cat girl androids! Weird environmentalist sub-plot! (Warning: There is one or two ecchi scenes with the two cat girl androids.)
Black Magic M-66 - Single OVA about killer androids going after a loli bot and soldiers and a journo trying to save the bot. (The female android does get "naked" but not in an ecchi sense.)
>90's
Musekinin Kanchou Tylor - Arguably not "hidden gem" but essential viewing especially for sci-fi fans. This show is romp with the titular Captain Tylor outsmarting his opponents simply by taking it easy. (Warning: there were a couple of fan service moments, but that is not the focus of the series.)
Tetsuwan Birdy - A guy dies but is "resurrected" because a space cop accidently kills him while trying to stop alien scum. She is forced to merge with him, only coming out by transforming the body at command. (Warning: I was one the fence of suggesting this due to the gender bender aspect. It's more like there are two people with two bodies but one being, and the one you see is the one who has full control at the moment. Obviously, there are some ecchi moments due to the set-up.)
The Big O - Take Batman: The Animated Series and turn it into a mecha. Arguably a 2000's anime due to the aesthetics and sensibilities and the version funded by Adult Swim, but the 90's is the decade I have watched the least, so I need something to count as the third recommendation.
>2000's
Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor - ZAWA! ZAWA! A man down bad on his luck survives various death games through sheer will, street smarts, and the Fates being on his side.
Overman King Gainer - Mecha set in a post-apocalyptic ice age. The OP is catchy.
Galaxy Angels - Retarded yet cute space cops do cute, funny, and retarded things, despite their overseers wish they take their job more seriously. (I think there is occasional fan service, but I don't recall any ecchi.)
>2010's
Gosick - Cute and funny detective acts pomp and uppity due her French Edwardian sensibilities and her intelligence.
Kill Me Baby - A Russian assassin and her baka "friend" do really stupid stuff that makes you laugh. Before Shikanoko's absurdist humor, there was this show.
Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 - Really well done remake of the original Space Battleship Yamato.
>2020's (So far)
Princess Connect! Re:Dive S1 - Even though it's an adaptation of a gacha, the animation is gorgeous and story is a pleasant fantasy slice of life. It was produced by the guys who made Konosuba, but the focus is less on parody of isekai and more on happy whimsy.
Houkago Teibou Nisshi - High school girls do comfy fishing.
Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekake-chuu - Take your usual isekai slop, but actually try to put some effort into the writing and you get this classic sword and sorcery story about a skele knight and his elf cohort dealing with corruption in the land. (Warning: there's one ecchi bath scene toward the latter part of the show.):gura_sus: 1e+6 litres :flag_china: likes this.
