Today is the anniversary of the Battle of Diu, in which Francisco de Almeida launched an attack on Diu against the Gujarat Sultanate, to avenge the death of his son in an earlier battle against them. Francisco's battle unintentionally ended up making Europe dominant over sea trade, knocking the Ottoman Empire out of that position.
