Wait what? Damn. A newly proposed law could see people in the US face significant fines or even jail time for using the Chinese AI app DeepSeek. https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/deepseek-ban-us-ai-law-b2691755.html also, Australia has banned DeepSeek from all government devices and systems over what it says is the security risk the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) startup poses.
I have no idea what the hell is going on anymore. There is so much confusion daily. Every day, some new stuff happens. There is chaos out there, and nobody addresses real issues like privacy, safety, job loss, or copyright infringement caused by AI. I am so exhausted. I think it is time to quit tech and go back to something else for me.
@nixCraft " also, Australia has banned DeepSeek from all government devices and systems over what it says is the security risk the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) startup poses"
This is bullshit. If they cared about security, all AI would be banned. Hell, Windows would be banned.
@nixCraft If you're talking about tech in general like working an I.T. desk job, then yeah it's basically dead.
I think the better route if you plan to stick with tech is finding a niche. For a while I thought I was gonna go into AI engineering. However, I'm finding my footing with text-to-speech type applications.
@nixCraft a couple of years in and all I keep thinking about is how we have a great opportunity but we’re screwing it up. We’re using ai for all the wrong things. We’re speeding up its deployment without considering the cost to the Earth. It does seem to be greed stopping us from tapping the breaks.
@nixCraft Nothing new, just TheRich from Oceania are trying to save their profits from powerful blow delivered by TheRich of Eastasia and they're using U.S. govt for it. All we have to do is prepare for the time when stuff reaches the propeller, masto is good step in this way. The goal would be having corporate-free mesh alternative to internet. Ham Radio ppl are seem to be working on this.
