I'm a fan of the crimson variety. Clover is a nitrogen fixing plant so it will improve soil conditions. It might have a hard time if the soil is too rocky, but it does pretty well here where I have a lot of clay.
Alfalfa is another good cover crop that will improve soil conditions and might be more suitable since it drives a tap root which will crack up the soil and add a lot of biomass when it's cut back.
Neither of these are great if you want to be able to walk on it. The crimson clover doesn't handle crushing all that well, and alfalfa gets pretty tall if you let it. There are ground covers that can be walked over outside of grass, but I don't know them.-
Sir Pantangelini (pantangelini@noagendasocial.com)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 04:53:33 JST Sir Pantangelini One of you NAS'ers had posted a recommendation for a yard ground cover that wasn't grass or moss.
Please advise, got a friend with a rocky, more shady zone 6 yard.
