   it's just so miserable using a computer nowadays. all the operating systems are just awful aren't they

     with each new update there's a new thing they've started doing that i don't want, and an old thing i do want that they've stopped doing. and it's literally just down to one thing: the incentives aren't there for anyone to make them work in a way that i would consider 'good'. the people making windows, the people making mac os, the people making linux? they don't agree with me, their opinions are the opposite of mine. we're in conflict! that's why it's getting worse, they're winning!

     i suspect that a lot of tech fans (and tech industry people) aren't really fans of tech, but fans of exciting new things, of fast-paced change. it just so happens that "tech" is the thing that most gives that feeling, to the average person, in the early 21st century. when the things i wanted out of technology also happened to be new, exciting things, the tech people were on my side, so the technology itself was too. but no longer! now their paymasters have worked em into a shoot, as we say
