In case you missed it, the state had to do rolling blackouts on Christmas Eve and into Christmas, not because blizzards were causing damage to the grid, it was just too cold and they couldn’t keep up with demand for heat.

It’s crazy people instantly adapt and normalize. Everyone is shrugging and saying “oh too many people were trying to heat their homes, that’s a reasonable explanation” and moving right on to individualist solutions “I hear you’ve got to live near a hospital, if you’re on the same part of the grid as the hospital you’ll never lose power because they won’t turn that part of the grid off.”

@SerfnUSA My favorite is "You really ought to look into getting a generator for this kind of thing because it could become a lot more common"
-
@WoodshopHandman @SerfnUSA "Oh you bought a gasoline generator? You should've done more research and used solar, this will be terrible for your social credit score next tax season!"
-
@SerfnUSA was explaining this to my parents when I got the text messages telling us it was gonna go dark and they couldn't wrap their heads around it
Everyone under 40 just reflexively understood shit was fucked, but I kept having to go in circles with "they won't make more power for more heat because they can't transmit it because it's all old and broken because they didn't build any, doesn't matter if you want to pay for more power or not"
