@rat@ong if it works at all use bitlbee and install the xmpp plugin for it [i think it might come out of the box actually i dont remember] and just use your favorite irc client, much easier because there are actually good irc clients
@ong@rat conduit barely used memory when i used it. conduit is another implementation so whatever the matrix guys do, doesn't really matter as far as i know
@mischievoustomato@rat it uses like 500mb of ram and 50% on my cpu compared to prosody that uses nothing not to mention conduwit was using 4gb of storage after barely using the server itself for like 2 months
@mischievoustomato@rat every time a chat app comes out, you name it i've used it. xmpp is the king. no matter what. i always keep an open mind to see if anything is better, but at the moment xmpp wins 10/10.
@mischievoustomato@ong dawg i looked at conduit once and the last commit was months ago and a fork of it is called "conduwuit" with some puppygirl domain i am not touching that
@rat@ong > was months ago yeah development was slow for a while but i still chose it for my server when i had it, and aside from it taking a while to support new room versions, it was flawless. It literally just worked, 0 issues, barely any resource usage
@nyanide@ong@rat the foss experience is talking to people that evangelize something so much, that you talk to them enough and end up giving you a laundry list of how that shit they love so much sucks
@rat@ong it was ok when it works, but not when it randomly just doesn't work, or when on chat rooms you can't send shit because someone on there has a dead account. Peak FOSS UX!
@ong@rat i had a terrible experience with it, from using it on other people's instances with multiple client software, to hosting it myself again with multiple client software. I am not gonna be able to change my mind on this
@ong@rat it used around like... 5% cpu for me? I didn't use "conduwit" at all because who the fuck actually trusts software named like that?
xmpp server software can be nice and all but it doesnt matter when all clients suck major ass and fail for whatever the fuck reason arbitrarily, and feel clunky to boot
