We need to bring back megafauna
- Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks repeated this.

@Wormwood >The brothers were interested in the possibility of resurrecting the aurochs through back-breeding — essentially recreating an extinct phenotype through selective breeding — and they traveled the continent searching for suitable domestic species carrying the aurochs’ key traits and genetic lineage, from Spanish fighting bulls, Hungarian steppe and Scottish Highland cattle, to Holsteins and Alpine breeds.
>Lutz and Hermann Goering, founder of the Gestapo and president of the Reichstag, became friends and went hunting in traditional dress and armed with spears to try and recreate the heroism of ancient German mythology. When Lutz released his back-bred aurochs into a reserve in 1938, he wrote that, “the extinct Auerochs has arisen again as a German wild species in the Third Reich.”
>Lutz’s aurochs mostly died in the bombing of Berlin at the end of the war

@Remi @Wormwood It's worth noting that even after the war other people continued to work on it after seeing it and going "ok you guys didn't get them right but we reckon we can do better". There is a spirit to the vision of restoring the past that lives on and even if you don't make it, others will follow in your footsteps and continue the works.

Idk why we can't have wooly mammoths yet. They're always finding those things. Not fossilized, frozen! Fresh wooly mammoth genetic material. They're always uncovering that shit, in Siberia or Alaska. Just get the genetic material, put that shit in the womb of an elephant. Instant wooly mammoth. It shouldn't be too hard. We have the technology. I just want to see a wooly mammoth and maybe ride on it damnit

@Wormwood If I recall, all attempts along those lines have ended in the animals being super dysgenic and not living long due to organ failure (e.g., the Pyrenean Ibex). There was one guy working on it, Hwang Woo-Suk, buying Wooly Mammoths from the Russian mafia. But he was disgraced after faking results, embezzling funds, etc. A lot of the issue is that all surviving Mammoth tissue that has been analyzed is too damaged to use, if I recall.
