@gemlog @amiloradovsky If you "earn" something I can understand a certain feeling of entitlement to the thing you feel you've earned.
-
@amiloradovsky @gemlog I think we all play a role in what happens to us, albeit there are always going to be variables outside of our control. I just meant to say a feeling of entitlement to your possessions can be justified if you haven't plundered your wealth from others. The kind of entitlement that I can't stand is when people think they are entitled to control how others live, and I don't think that is necessarily tied to wealth.
-
@thatguyoverthere @gemlog I don't really think I'm responsible for what happens to me, be it good or bad, still I wonder if there is anything I can do just by my discretion
-
@amiloradovsky @gemlog true, but sometimes envious people look on what others have managed to build for themselves and decide retroactively that what they did to build it was exploitative. I think it's impossible to expect that in any interaction the result will be "fairly balanced" since the definition of fair is going to be largely subjective in many cases.
Disclaimer: I'm not justifying actual exploitation, just pointing out that it's possible to frame something as exploitative that isn't.
-
@thatguyoverthere @gemlog sometimes the plunder happens indirectly and in an unobvious way, so it's hard to realize, especially by the person in question, but still it's taking advantage of others
-
@amiloradovsky @gemlog yeah there is plenty of real exploitation, but I think if we focus too much on the "net worth" of a person it's easy to say they **must** have exploited someone to get where they are without evidence, and we should be hesitant to do that. There are also people who never get rich but exploit people continuously. There is more to it is all I am saying.
I think everyone wants to live more comfortably, and I think we all want to say we've added value to the world, but what does that mean? does value only get measured in dollars? There are ways to find and create value outside of the economic system you are working within. Sometimes there are ways to capitalize on that value within the economic system. This in my opinion is a good thing, but it shouldn't be the only motivation.

@thatguyoverthere @gemlog sure envy is a real thing, but it's not all just envy when it comes to comparing how much different people make and have, and noticing the disparity
I'd love to make times more money than I make now and really create this much value
-
@amiloradovsky @gemlog I agree with you (sort of). I hate to cede language.
-
@thatguyoverthere @gemlog the very term of an exploitation is kinda cringe for me, because it reminds me of marxism which I'm not a fan of and which doesn't even define what the fair norm is
my motivation to get more units of currency in time is noticing that some others who sacrificed less get more
