i highly respect how byran huang made a rk3588 laptop from scratch (i know how much work it is), but i wonder if he's never seen what we've been doing over those years / am worried that we still have too low visibility in the world

@mntmn well you're basically only visible(on mainstream tech news) when you release a new product.
And as a builder if you don't research existing hardware projects but just think "hey let's build xy hardware", projects like mnt, novena et cetera will fly under the radar.
At least that's my guess -

@mntmn Honestly, judging by how flashy that video (and the rest of his online presentation) is - I think this wasn't about just having an RK3588 Laptop, it was about building one, the experience, the content, the CV bullet points, the bragging rights. He would have done the same if he did or did not know about MNT

@mntmn Hope Reform Next could bring more visibility. In my opinion, Classic Reform is really for tinkerer and OSHW enthusiast since its design is highly serviceable but chunky and difficult to move around; but Refrom Next really nailed the design for maintaining serviceability but also increase portability.
Having a dedicated review unit to send around to Linux and hardware-focused YouTubers for reviews could be a great strategy.

@mntmn I said the same thing while watching the video but I did notice your logo fly by at one point so he's at least looking at your schematics

@Hello9999901 hey, thanks and welcome to the fediverse! thank you for reaching out, and i'm very happy that our stuff could be an inspiration for you. awesome that you were able to juggle all these different skills and pulled it off, and that you went the open source hardware route!

@Hello9999901 btw if you ever want to swap tech notes, i'm often around here ^^ i'll need to solve the azoteq EOL trackpad issue very soon. for example, we need to figure out how exactly to create the PCB pattern for their chip in KiCAD.

@mntmn Thank you! I love open-source, and will do so as much as I can. I truly appreciate what you guys are doing with in the open-source hardware market!

@mntmn Yeah for sure! I'd love to.
How might I contact you? It's one heck of an honor for you to have even seen it!!
Azoteq's tech landscape also confuddles me. I've been thinking of alternatives like Ploopy's new trackpad, the George Norton Peacock, or something completely different!
