   What if instead of asking people to prove they were taught a certain thing (via degree/certification) we asked them to prove they knew the thing we hope they were taught (solve this problem)?

     @Flick yeah I think once upon a time that piece of paper probably held some weight too. The problem now is that education is a racket so getting a piece of paper really just says you played the game, not that you've actually learned a damn thing. I know people with an alphabet after their name I would never give root access to, and I know people without a single certification that can run circles around them.

     @thatguyoverthere I dare say that that used to be what was done, but it got unwieldy for complex jobs so someone came up with the bright idea of creating a standardised piece of paper that one could use as a proxy.
