     @eriner I understand, but he reposts stuff he reads in the Guardian as if it were true; there is no saving him. People have been telling him he needs to stop compromising the legacy of his free software work with his political commentary for years, but he just doesn't think like that.

     @ullard @eriner At least Stallman keeps his free software activism separate from his other activism, and is willing to work with people he disagrees with. For example, Stallman makes it clear that he isn't found of right-libertarians, but that didn't stop him from working with someone like ESR during the early days of the GNU project. Stallman has also appeared on right-wing shows like InfoWars.

     Contrast this with someone like Drew DeVault who constantly writes hit-pieces of people he doesn't like on his blog and goes out of his way to make sure they are blacklisted from as many communities as possible. Drew DeVault wants the entire FLOSS movement to cater to his narrow worldview.

     I don't like RMS's personal politics, especially his stances on COVID, but at least he knows to keep them separate from the free software movement and the GNU project.

     @ullard I would need to know more about his political history prior to passing judgement and I'm ignorant. From what I can tell at a glance it's mostly lib-left talking points, trace depth. Overuse of ambiguous term "fascist". Has many slurs for trump: "the infant", "the insurrectionist", "the troll", "numskull", "the war-lover", "the wrecker", "the cheater", "conman" listed as terms on his website.

     Now I know he can read my replies.

     @eriner I maintain in terms of politics, he’s like a software freedom savant: he’s brilliant at that, and pretty much nothing else
