@p my coworker is using chatgpt to write code and i asked if that was common in the industry now and they said "yeah it'd be like not using stackoverflow" and to be honest i dunno how to react to this information
-
@bless @charlie_root @p whats a langserver
-
@pernia @charlie_root @p Yeah that would be a good idea
I also want to replace all langservers with chatgpt because I've never used a langserver that fucking worked
-
@bless @charlie_root @p that usecase seems more like replacing apropos(1) with chatgpt

@p @bless
The term soydev just became more real and applicable.
Next thing you know you'll have mfers putting prompts into AI like the art stuff to create programs and that makes the "developers". Ballmer would be proud...
-
@charlie_root @p i'll promise i'll let you all know if i start doing this but it sure seems antithetical to the way i think and do things. auditing code is usually slower than writing code, and now if i'm taking ai-code i'm making myself an auditor instead of a coder...
honestly i could see myself being like "hey gpt-4 is there like some library function that does blahblahblah" and if it is good at answering questions like that it'd be my buddy
-
@bless I don't know how to react to that information. It seems like a problem to be solved by things like "write a goddamn function".

@pernia @charlie_root @p it's when you are working with nightmare languages like c++ and need to figure out what methods a class has or whatever + get auto complete and usually emacs or w/e will integrate with it
