     @fiore I say "donated" because he now has tons of random bits of hardware like e-waste and POS systems that he gets from weird sources. He also goes to the recycler a lot. Man has the weirdest computing powerhouse I've ever seen.

     @pernia @fiore @sysrq Ironically enough his main interest seems to be electronics or art, he's dabbled with both in the past. He put together power supplies so he could boot up some old MacBooks and keep them on for longer than 5 minutes. It looked like a fire hazard when he showed me one of his successful attempts at creating one.

     I have an Asus L410 I "inherited" from a friend who passed. I use it for just that purpose. It's not powerful, but it boots fast. I can have a terminal up in about 60 seconds tops. And it's light, so if I need to hook up to a switch or router, etc., it's my go to.

     @kim @fiore i'm not home yet but also that thing is a super old netbook i bet fiore could get a thing like that for a couple euros off ebay. it's just that if you have somewhat unreasonable compute power requirements to that tiny thing it gets expensive. but then the average phone does have completely unreasonable amounts of compute power nowadays
