     @malte tl;dr: instead of investing development into open source server software they are building a new, closed source, higher performance implementation so they can sell it

     So, well, that's kind of bad press for the matrix.org's somehow official for-profit company

     That + way too much technical weird decisions in the matrix protocol itself.
