@MoeBritannica Nobody even remembers the other game notch made, I wouldn't take advice from him.
Lots of the best games weren't made on in-house engines.:gura_sus: 1e+6 litres :flag_china: likes this. -

@SnugSmug @MoeBritannica
even if people were forced to make their own engines and did, games would still be uninteresting :intj_stare:
nothing is stopping people from doing interesting things with existing engines, tf2 is source, tf|2 is also source :cappie_explode:
>authors dont download a story template for their books then see how much they can be creative within those limits
except that 99% of tales follow the exact same story structure :kaguya_explode: -

@SnugSmug @MoeBritannica I like the idea of making custom engines, but it's not a good suggestion for anyone who doesn't have a decade and a good team to spare. Overly time consuming with little actual benefit unless you are mostly aware of what you're doing from the get-go. He even clarifies in that last post this isn't actual advice.
The real advice is "don't buy into whatever is the current engine with the most marketing without a second thought." UE5 is trash for a lot of games, and takes too much work to beat into shape. Unity is versatile, but it can take a lot of work to get certain types of games to function as they should. Hell, if you think your game would benefit from some of the features ingrained in the damn Source Engine, use that. No need for everything to look good in a marketing reel.:gura_sus: 1e+6 litres :flag_china: likes this. -

@MoeBritannica "reinvent the wheel" ahh post, authors don't make computers they write on from scratch. Chefs don't genetically modify vegetables and meat they use for their recopies. :gura_sus: 1e+6 litres :flag_china: likes this.
