   The only good thing that is coming out of the TikTok ban is that kids are downloading another app whose UI is in the Chinese language, and now they are learning Chinese. No wonder Duolingo sees a 216% spike in US users learning Chinese amid the TikTok ban and move to RedNote (Xiaohongshu). They are doing it out of spite, I know, but numerous studies indicate that learning a new language can significantly help improve cognitive abilities, including memory, problem-solving skills, multitasking

     @FrankauLux It's still better than nothing, right? Even if we say that only 1-5% of those kids stuck with their plan and learned something new, that would be a win in my book. It's definitely better than spending an hour each day doomscrolling TikTok or YouTube shorts or Insta reels.

     Also if I remember highschool correctly there should be a friend group saying they should take Mandarin next year for their language credit right about now.
