Wow.-

prettygood (prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jan-2025 15:42:46 JST prettygood @lanodan funny I still don't trust ZFS. -

Still need backups of course because even if you make filesystems effectively bug-free and resistent to hardware issues there's still userspace and the idiot between the keyboard and the chair. -
prettygood (prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jan-2025 15:54:22 JST prettygood @lanodan @dcc yeah. I just use borgbackup and test it a couple of times a year and hope for the best. Ironically, despite my own personal feelings, rsync dot net uses zfs for their customers and that's "good enough for me" so take that as it is. -

tarballs to me being irreplaceable because I want my stuff in a format I'm sure I can easily extract data from regardless of the OS.† top dog :pedomustdie: likes this. -
† top dog :pedomustdie: (dcc@annihilation.social)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jan-2025 15:54:59 JST † top dog :pedomustdie: @lanodan @prettygood I should put my backup in a tar ball yes, i forgot if you can rsync it to a tar ball to a server? -
† top dog :pedomustdie: (dcc@annihilation.social)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jan-2025 16:01:28 JST † top dog :pedomustdie: @lanodan @prettygood It seems its possible to rsync to a destiation and then tar it, seem's to be scripting stuff though nothing to do with rsync. -
Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: (lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me)'s status on Saturday, 11-Jan-2025 16:01:29 JST Haelwenn /элвэн/ :triskell: @dcc @prettygood Well a tarball is just a file so you can rsync that.
And if it's like appending to a tarball tape-archive style, I think rsync should also work well but I haven't checked.
