@arstechnica What a shame....but I would guess this number would increase if EVs were more affordable and easier to charge both at home and on the road.
Apartment charging in particular is important. Younger generations are more enthusiastic about greener living, but they are least likely to be able to afford a home that they could charge at affordably.
We need to increase charging availability and reduce vehicle costs in order to improve this sentiment.
@arstechnica I want an EV, just not one currently on the market in the US. Not sure I want most of the IC options currently on the market in the US either.
@arstechnica So this is like people who don’t want 4K TV, but over time non-4K becomes harder to find. That’s what it will take for electric vehicles. That plus more charging options.
@arstechnica In #Aotearoa we had an enlightened govt for 6 years that promoted #EVs. Our electricity generation is >90% renewable & 100% renewable in the South Island. Our family car has been an EV for years, & other family members drive hybrids. EVs are vastly cheaper to operate, quieter & more comfortable than ICEs. 99% of charging occurs in our garage, where we have a 16 amp socket. Fast chargers are plentiful but only useful on long trips. ICEs are ancient, inefficient technology.
