for as much as fedi people shit on crypto, farcaster is intelligently designed for volume unlike this spaghetti proto
-
@sun luckily neither the fediverse nor farcaster will ever have to deal with any volume
-
@lain I am pretty sure that mastodon.social by itself is bigger than the entire active farcaster network. probably the top five or ten servers.
I looked at the farcaster proto specs and thought, I could implement this in less than a week and it would cover every scenario and you wouldn't have to deal with endless arguments with people to extend it.

@sun lol lmao people woke up last night and thought "crypto software"
-
@FrailLeaf the thing really only uses crypto for identity, none of the content is on-chain but it was designed and built by crypto people.
-
@FrailLeaf I started losing faith when I asked a simple question, what if linked data was taken seriously by this network that is supposedly linked data. and the answer is it wouldn't be compatible with any other implementation and the basic tools you would need to build it on free software don't even exist in a usable state.
-
@sun my man which crypto is holding you hostage
-
@FrailLeaf I am just looking at two different protocols and one of them is really well designed and implemented and the other is a sprawling mess that still manages to be underdefined and nobody can implement and relies on mastodon functionality to interop with anyone.
