   Hot take: blocking accessibility tools, like Reader Mode in Firefox-based browsers, ought to be illegal.

   I could go further and say that ensuring digital interfaces are fully accessible ought to be compulsory. But punishing companies that make dickhead moves to block adversarial accessibility is the minimum viable regulation.

     I didn't really use reader mode myself even back when I used Firefox. I just tend to not go to sites that are laid out like shit with 100 JS animations. I'm using cromite and ungoogled- chromium now.

     I've been to many websites where it doesn't work, or doesn't work as I would like it to, even though there doesn't seem to be any evidence of malice. It's s heuristical algorithm that is making many guesses about the content of a page.

     Definitely would be useful for visually impaired people who use a screen reader though

     I remember similar criticisms being made, just before some massive performance improvements to Firefox made it (for a while) the best web browser on the market. I agree that the problem at present is at the governance level. Especially the spectacularly incompetent parasite CEO who pockets huge chunks of their funding. She has to go.

     @strypey @dushman i have endless laughter that they fired the guy who basically built the company and the engine because of a gay marriage vote, but celebrate the 'progressive' woman who has consistently cut 50% of jobs year after year, but gets full bonus (indicating the board considers her job to destroy the place.)

     Yeah their current CEO is an absolutely incompetent leech. Shame to see it go this way cuz I actually loved Firefox back in it's golden age.
