May as well run the installer and be done with it. I don't have Windows on this laptop so one for next year.-

HP hardware fucking sucks these days -
Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Dec-2024 08:07:38 JST Bricky Update, the EXE can be extracted with 7z and the BIN file contained within is the update file. It contains a BIOS/UEFI and associated firmwares, and must be placed in a special path (i.e. [/EFI]/HP/DEVFW) on a USB flash drive.
Can't say I've previously done that on this ProBook. I got it this year but the UEFI was dated late 2023. HP surprises me again, this time in a good way. -
Bricky (thatbrickster@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Dec-2024 08:19:56 JST Bricky @dushman I ended up with a refurb ProBook and for-spares EliteBook this year. I'd say their UEFI sucks ass for not letting me preallocate more than 512MB RAM on pre-G10 hardware (both are G9).
Their customer support is also bollocks, trying to charge me 600€ for repairs that weren't part of the reported fault. They eventually waived the repair fees and sent it back in working order. Only guy I felt sorry for was the field engineer who didn't need to be called out and wasn't told the whole story by his superiors.
I started my laptop venture with business systems nearly a decade ago and that's where I am staying for the foreseeable. I ain't touching consumer-grade hardware where the chances of non-upgradable parts are non-zero. Any extended warranty that comes with business hardware is a plus, I was betting on it to make good on my £300 gamble. It has a Ryzen 6850U, not something found in that price range.Dushman likes this.
