As I watched the Rudolph special with my kid for the first time and braced for problematic content, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the actual explicit messages in the morality tale were… fine? Diversity is good, pluralism, admitting you’re wrong, all good stuff. But the weird part was the implicit assumption that everybody, even “good” people, all naturally react with an almost instinctual, intense revulsion at anything different, even different in a completely anodyne way.
