went to a whole rabbit hole about the rom lets you set the brightness to 'no backlight at all' which is cool because android doesn't even permission the backlight control, and to get out of it you have to shine a light at the screen and grasp around the UI.

on an up note i can turn off the brightness slider from the quick settings, making it harder to fix this. i cannot, however, save files to downloads ("to protect your privacy") nor am i allowed to turn off the permanent alert that an SD card exists, but i can accidentally eject that, even though i can't actually take it out because its in some stupid carriage that requires a pin to operate
